April 20, 2013: HBBH 3 ½  ~ A Very Merry Unbirthday Party

Chris Schlicht

Hello All Un-Birthday Blog Hoppers,
I am so glad to be here and would like to thank Shelley Graham-Turner and Marlene Cupo for having this Non-Blogger.  What I made was a bead crochet necklace.

I made it for Ellie Grossman who unfortunately did not come through with her end of the swap.  Not to fear our leaders stepped up and filled in so I did get a swap piece.

Ellie’s birth stone so she said was Peridot.  So I used Peridot roundels with light green pearls and a small pink pearl for color.  It reminds me of a little pink flower in a vine of green leaves.  I used one of Cheryl Foiles enamel toggles to close it.  It came out really nice.  The picture does not really do a good job of showing it off.  I had hoped that Ellie would have posted a better picture.  I hope who ever ends up with it enjoys it.  Looking forward to seeing all the other pieces.  Happy hopping.

Necklace I made for my HBBH 3 1/2 - Very Merry Unbirthday Party partner Shelley Graham Turner. I was fortunate to have found out the day before going to Gem Faire who my my partner was and what her birthstone was...Ruby. Off to Gem Faire I went with and open mind, looking for ideas and inspiration. I knew the moment I saw the the carved wood flowers, I had my focal to build around. Czech glass wire wrapped with nickel silver, turquoise knoted with red silk cord and silver ox brass chain.I also sent her an organic Raspberry Dagoba dark chocolate bar with raspberries and rosehips. You have to have a Very Merry Unbirthday "cake" right?

Presents I received from Shelley Graham Turner

Dark chocolate, chai, serene Buddhas and beautiful green gemstone and copper earrings. I love them all.

Laura Reed

"This was my swap gift to Chris Schlicht. We went with the theme for Valentine’s Day and the color red (kind of). The bracelet is a red coral and bead beauty! I also included two polymer clay covered pens that I created myself.  I used cane slices to cover the pens."

Chris Schlicht

"I am very new at this and so you all will have to bear with me. Laura and I talked and we decided on Valentines Day. Laura loves hearts so I tried to put hearts in every piece. The bracelet was the first piece that I made. I thought of a theme to help me stay on track. It is the key to my heart. So the clasp is a key and heart with the lamp-work hearts with the roses  Pink is the color of friendship in roses so that is why I added them.  The red beads came from the de-stash page. These are a group of new friends so this is an extension of that friendship.  The green bumpy beads also have hearts on them and were something that I had never seen before. The earrings came next and with them I again used the Key to My Heart theme. There is a heart with a key hole and the key to fit. The small red crystal beads represent the blood we give for our loved ones. Then I found the large heart at the last minute and did not know for sure what I wanted to do for a necklace so I put it on a red satin cord so that it could be changed if Laura wanted to. I again added the red crystals to represent what we will do for loved ones.  I am so happy that I could make this set for Laura and I hope she will enjoy it.
I want to thank Shelley for her help and friendship and I hope I will do better next time."

  3. I'm not really a heart person so I always love when people prove me wrong. That pen with the hearts in the cane is super cute with the black and white. I also really love the heart necklace because it's simple and so striking. You both did a great job.

  10. Chris,

I appreciate how much thought and love you put into the jewelry you created for Laura. What a lovely ensemble! When you mentioned the destash, I thought of our Bead Swap group :) and those friends we share. It's nice how you included friendship in the bracelet by adding special beads. Your "Key to My Heart" theme is so sweet, and I think it's neat that even a pretty heart focal appeared for you to make a necklace too. The red satin cord looks so soft & pretty -- it's perfect for the focal!

Very lovely jewelry ensemble! Wonderful jewelry!

    Happy Hopping ;)

  11. Laura,

The pens!! Wow, are they special. I love that you made something so sculptural with clay. Are you a member of Tina Holden's special Facebook group for creating with polymer? They make journals, window art, fairy doors, and more. Your talent would fit right in, if you are not already with them :)

Love the red! Your red coral and red bead is indeed a beauty! Gorgeous. I'd love it if I received that rich, wonderful jewelry.

You two had such a lovely jewelry exchange, and I'm so pleased that Marshell Swaps have a site & have postings for those without blogs :) Wouldn't want to miss out on you two & your Valentine's exchange. Lovely!!

    Happy Hopping,
    TJ

I am not disapointed because I know Marlene and Shelley have looked out for me. Thanks so much you guys. I really love the large flowers on the piece that Janeen made. 21. Lovely necklace Chris. You can never go wrong with peridot and pearls. Someday I would love to learn how to bead crochet, I really like the look of it. When I saw the carved wood flowers I knew I had my focal for Shelley's necklace and fell in love with them. Very tropical feeling. If they had another large one I would have bought a second set to make something for me, but it was not meant to be, it was meant only for Shelley.
